>>> Time efficient

A. Context, Concept and storytelling:

How well does the drawing reflect the brief narrative and site's context? Does it weave environmental, social, or historical aspects of the site into the design concept? Are there any ways to strengthen the storytelling by highlighting how the project responds to the site's unique conditions.

YELLOW THOUGHTS recognises that giving feedback can sometimes feel overwhelming, so we've tried to simplify it into four key focus areas.

As professionals, we trust your judgement in selecting the focus area that best aligns with the student's work, ensuring the feedback is always tailored, constructive, uplifting and easy to absorb to all students.

B. Clarity of Visual Communication:

How clear and readable is the drawing? Could techniques like shading, colour, line weights hierarchy, scales, and other visual elements make the drawing more coherent and easy to follow.

D. Possibilities for deeper investigation:

Are there opportunities to further develop circulation paths, spatial transitions, or overall organisation within the design? Could the drawing's representation of scale, depth, proportion, or perspective be enhanced? Consider how material choices and detailing can be conveyed through texture light, shadow, line weights in the drawing.

Suggestive feedback focus areas:

C. All rounder - miscellaneous and everything in between

Short project brief summary

ALL DWGS ARE (UNDER GRAD) AND OVER 10 YRS OLD - ALL USED FOR E.G. PURPOSES ONLY

The original project brief was located on a bustling high street in Brentford, with limited access to the nearby River Brent. From my detailed site analysis, I observed that the existing walkways were narrow, poorly lit, and rarely used. My proposal was to create a new music centre, complete with a recording studio, serving as a hub for all ages - because music is universal! The materials chosen for the centre was prefabricated concrete and glass to create a striking contrast to the older brick facade buildings. The centre aimed to attract a diverse audience while offering a strong visual connection between the high street and the river. Over time, future development within the derelict are of the river could emerge from new businesses, breathing new life into the area and cultivating a strong sense of community.

Example 001 Feedback

Hello Oliver,

Your proposal for the music centre as a community hub holds significant promise. Music is a universal language, and the centre has the potential to draw in a diverse range of people. The way you're integrated a strong visual connection to the river is commendable, especially by transforming the previously narrow, dark walkways into open, well-lit pathways. The design choice encourages natural movement from the high street to the river, inviting the public to explore the space more freely.

However, to deepen the storytelling and connection to the local context, it would be compelling to include more drawings that showcase the centre filled with activity, both inside and outside. While your detailed plans and sections are strong, showing how the music centre interacts with the community and riverside can further bring your concept to life.

Additionally, consider how the contemporary glass and prefabricated concrete facade of the building could incorporate original materials from the demolished structures. This approach could help preserve a sense of the site's history and enhance the environment narrative by repurposing old materials. This could strengthen the storytelling of the site's evolution and its relationship with the local community and natural surroundings.

Integrating more of the context and site analysis into your drawings could significantly enhance the depth and richness of your concept.

All the best,

HB
